GOOSEFEATHER STUDIO
Through my work, I aim to evoke wonder and connection to the natural world, inviting viewers to contemplate their own experiences and relationships with the environment. The ocean and flowers are recurring motifs, symbolizing resilience, fragility, and the timeless cycles of life. They embody the essence of my artistic expression, rooted in a deep appreciation for the beauty and complexity of our world.
Originally from the vibrant streets of Rio de Janeiro, I carry with me a lifelong affinity for the ocean, which has become a central theme in my work. The ocean represents more than just a geographical landmark; it embodies my happiest memories and serves as a muse that continually inspires my art.
MY DRAWINGS
Influenced by Georgia O'Keeffe's paintings, I wanted to give a new twist on the traditional genre of the ever popular flora. The life stages of a flower are reminiscent of our own life stages. At times vibrant, others melancholic or wilted, the flowers depicted are symbolic of our ever evolving, oft' cyclical, life journey. These pieces not only showcase my aesthetic sensibilities but also weave a personal narrative, capturing the cyclical nature of life and the enduring beauty in every stage.
In these chalk pastel drawings, lush Sennelier chalk pastels are used on a textured Colourfix Paper surface in a contrasting color palette. I use colored pencils to add meticulous detail to the highly blended surfaces.
ARTIST STATEMENT
As an artist, I am deeply inspired by the natural world and the profound connections it fosters within us. Originally from the vibrant streets of Rio de Janeiro, I carry with me a lifelong affinity for the ocean, which has become a central theme in my work. The ocean represents more than just a geographical landmark; it embodies my happiest memories and serves as a muse that continually inspires my art. Growing up, photography was my gateway to capturing the essence of Brasil, preserving fleeting moments that evoke a sense of nostalgia and belonging.Over the years, my artistic journey has evolved to encompass various media, including drawing, painting, and photography. Each medium allows me to explore and express different facets of my experiences and emotions. I find myself drawn to the intricate beauty of flowers, which I depict in my drawings as metaphors for life's transitions—vibrant in bloom, introspective in decline. These drawings not only reflect my aesthetic sensibilities but also serve as a personal narrative, capturing the cyclical nature of life and the enduring beauty found in every stage.Through my art, I aim to evoke a sense of wonder and connection to the natural world, inviting viewers to contemplate their own experiences and relationships with the environment. MY PAINTINGS
Few things soothe my soul more than sitting in a beach chair with my feet in the ocean ... or pool, okay, I'll settle for creek if I have to. Add painting while enjoying the salt air and then you have my favorite therapy. These deckled edge beauties showcase some of my favorite sea relics and memories.
MY PHOTOGRAPHS
Born in Brasil, I migrated to America as a young child. Photographs were once my only tangible link to my home land; they were a source of comfort, in reality, a time capsule of a specific time period and of memories that would otherwise be forgotten. Photographs continue to bring ideas to life for me, I’ve used the medium to narrate my multidimensional life, to capture the serendipitous, and yes, photograph that which I find beautiful. Photography has been a vehicle of exploration, of not only the world ahead of me, but a past behind me. Through photography I seek to illustrate ideas about belonging, and yet not belonging, to two very diverse cultures.
